In 1817, during the independence war in Colombia, the enslaved man Domingo is secretly trying to build a marimba - a Colombian musical instrument. However, once it's ready, he doesn't get to enjoy it much. Months of work are destroyed in only a few minutes. Hoping for freedom, Domingo decided to join the army of Simón Bolívar, but once the war is over, he still needs to flee to be able to live as a free man. The marimba he builds in freedom will play an important role in the life of his daughter and grandson.
