CloseJe pouvais lire la terreur dans les yeux des soldats qui avaient été assiégés pendant les six derniers mois, mais avec moi ils ont retrouvé leur courage. J’ai levé mon drapeau dans l’air et je me suis approchée sans peur. Les Anglais nous regardaient approcher du haut de la fortifi cation de Saint-Loup . Leurs fl èches tombaient sur nous comme de la pluie. J’entendais les cris des hommes tombés. J’ai continué à avancer. J’ai crié : — Allez-y ! Continuez ! Dieu est avec vous. Ne vous arrêtez pas. La France est à nous !
This novel is the second in a series of three novels about the life of Joan of Arc, in which she tells us in her own voice how she leads the French army in the war against England and obtains victory. In this second book, other voices are included, who tell parts of the story from their own perspective: ordinary people who tell each other what they have seen and heard, and Yolande d'Aragon, the tutor of the crown prince, who gives us more insight in the political intrigues around Jeanne.
This series was written especially for French learners at an intermediate-high to advanced level. With a rich but still manageable vocabulary, these short novels make French language and history easily accessible to learners. Enjoy reading!
