CloseCarl is nine years old when he and his mother move from a small Colorado town to the busy metropolis of Paris. Carl doesn't like it at all. He misses his friends, his school and the mountains of his hometown. Then one day he takes care of a stray dog. He calls the dog Rufus, but when it turns out to be a female, it becomes 'la Princesse Rufus'. Carl feels like a hero, just like the main character in his favorite book "Captain Underpants". When a boy in the street asks for his name and mispronounces it, he lets it go and from then on is known as Charles. In the end he doesn't want to leave Paris at all!

Information for Teachers
Carl ne veut pas aller en France contains many simple words, constructions and phrases that are repeated all the time without it ever getting boring. Therefore it is above all suited for beginners. The story, and the main character being of around that age, corresponds well to children of about 10 years old, so it fits in nicely with elementary school, but it can certainly also be used in the first year of secondary school, individually or in class.
The story contains enough starting points for discussions or even for carrying out simple conversations, such as: moving to a completely different place, Paris, pets, stray dogs and heroes. You can also do a lot of fun activities around the book and it is exceptionally well-suited for Reader's Theater.
