Information for teachers
From the author: "I had intentionally left a few key questions unanswered in “The Gray Planet”, my first sci-fi graphic novel for Novice learners. These questions were listed at the end of the book to create an opportunity for students to reflect on the story and characters. And then, something really cool started happening: teachers from all over the US and Canada were sending me speculations or predictions from their students about some of the unanswered questions! That was just the push I needed to get to work and write a prequel with my amazing illustrator, Alkinz.
The graphic novel is 21 pages long, with only 180 words and lots of cognates. If you have read “The Gray Planet” as a class, your students will naturally flock to this prequel once you put it in your classroom libraries to find out more about Eru and Nen’s past! I have carefully recycled some key phrases from the first book and also added to it, which will make the reading a rewarding experience for your students both from a plot and language standpoint. Additionally, the font is big (15+) for a dyslexia-friendly read."
